CHARLES WOOD COMPOSERS’ COMPETITION 2025
1. Entrants must be 18 years old or older at the closing date and not previously had a composition commercially published or made available for sale on a third party website. The competition is not open to employees, or the close relatives of employees of the Charles Wood Festival or anyone else connected with the creation or administration of this competition.
2. Entrants should set the following text (Psalm 46: 1-5, 10) for SATB choir either a cappella or with organ accompaniment. The piece should strike a balance: accessible for amateur choirs to learn with some challenge, yet readily performable by professional choirs with limited rehearsal. The duration of the work should be around 3 minutes:
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;
God will help it when the morning dawns.
Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth.
3. Only one entry per entrant will be accepted. If an entrant submits more than one entry, only the first entry registered will be judged and any subsequent entries will be disregarded. Joint entries (entries from two or more entrants) are not eligible and will be disregarded.
