Ian Keatley
The Artistic Director, Chair and Board of the Charles Wood Festival and Summer School have been deeply shocked and saddened by news of the sudden passing of Ian Keatley, Founding Director of our Girls’ Choir.
Ian was a very special talent, who worked so brilliantly with young singers. He sought and achieved the highest possible standards and we were so fortunate to have enjoyed his skills, insight and friendship.
Chair, Richard Yarr MBE DL, said “Ian loved the Festival and was involved with it over several decades, including as a member of the Charles Wood Singers. However, it was in his role as Director of our Girls’ Choir, that he was able to translate that deep commitment into a staff role. Ian was a master in getting results from young singers. He guided them with insight and warmth, and they respected him immensely. We all felt the benefits of Ian’s talent and he will always hold a special place in the story of our Festival and Summer School. We extend our deepest sympathy to Ian’s parents, his family and many friends.”
Ian’s funeral will take place in St. George’s Church, High Street Belfast, on Friday 23 August at 12 noon.
