As the excitement builds towards our 5th Charles Wood Song Competition, we are delighted to introduce our Senior Class Finalists commencing with Aimee Kearney.
Aimee is a 22-year-old soprano currently studying vocal performance with Virginia Kerr and Andrew Synnott at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. In addition to her performances as a classical soloist, she sings chamber music, opera and choral music. Aimee is a frequent competition winner; most notably, she was the winner of the Charles Wood Junior Song Competition in 2020. She was the winner of the Irene Sandford Award for singers 2021 and winner of the aria prize in the same competition. She is a multiple prize winner in Dublin’s prestigious Feis Ceoil, including the Plunkett Greene, The German Government Cup and the Young Cup. She was also a finalist in the Dramatic Cup and the Gervase Elwas Memorial Cup.
Aimee has performed as soloist in many concerts and recitals including Newpark Festival Gala Concert in the Kevin Barry Room of The National Concert Hall, Stars of the Future recital in the Charles Wood Festival of Music in Armagh and The US Council Gala at Dublin Castle. Other performances include lunchtime concerts in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin and The First Presbyterian Church in Belfast. She has been guest soloist with The Army Band, Nas na Rí Singers, The Plurabelle Singers and The Revenue Choir. Aimee looks forward to performing a solo recital in the Killaloe Chamber Music Festival in June as the chosen Young Artist performer.
In January, Aimee starred as Dominic the Prince in Elisabeth Maconchy’s opera The Sofa, produced by The Royal Irish Academy of Music. She performed her first major operatic role as Suor Genovieffa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica with Berlin Opera Academy in summer 2022. Her experience in Berlin was funded by the Individual Artist Award, which was generously awarded by the South Dublin County Council.
