Junior Finalist: Zachary Smith
Our fifth and final Junior Class singer is Zachary Smith.
Zachary is 20 years old and lives in Maidstone. He is in his third year at Royal Holloway, University of London, where he is reading music. He is a tenor choral scholar with the Chapel Choir and was previously Head Chorister at Bradford Cathedral. Zach was recently a scholar at St Bartholomew the Great in London with the professional choir, and sings at Canterbury Cathedral as a deputy lay clerk. He is also a current member of this year's Genesis Sixteen Cohort.
In order to follow his ambition and concentrate on music, Zach decided to move from his hometown of Halifax (West Yorkshire) to continue his studies at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, where he achieved his A Levels. Alongside his teacher Stuart Overington he began working steadily on his newly found tenor range and is now continuing this study with his current teacher Tim Travers-Brown.
Zach is thoroughly enjoying singing at Royal Holloway, with whom he performed in his debut major solo concert with selected arias from Handel's Messiah in St George’s Hall, Bristol. He was thrilled, more recently, to sing as the soloist in a performance of Mozart’s Requiem with a local choral society. Zach has also performed in masterclasses with industry leading professional singers, such as Dame Felicity Lott, Nicky Spence and Paul Phoenix.
Song Competition tickets are now available and can be purchased here.
